Bennett- D 3230 Q Whenever you failed to complete a trip with the boat it was because, in going up stream, for instance, you thought it would be easier under present conditions to walk up and back, where you could walk up and back, than to take your boat? A Well, there is many times I tried very hard to get a boat up and couldn't get it on account of conditions. I carried stuff five miles across trail there that it would have been nearer with a boat, and much easier. Made several trips. Q That was a case where you had a trail there and had an option of the two routes? A I couldn't say that. The boat I had, and equipment, I couldn't have got up by there. I used my best efforts to get by and wasn't able to do it, that stage of the water. Q Just which trip to you have in mind when you speak of leaving your boat? A The trip I have in mind when I left my boat, one in particular I have in mind, I can't tell you what year that was, but it was during extreme high water, we had very high water, and I went up as far as I could go, and had three men, and we worked there for nearly two days trying to get a certain point. I could have made it on up, but for that point, I suppose. Q Where were you going? A I was going to Hite. |
