Show 5170 F. Bennett- D 3182 A I have had three different motor boats on the river, but not when I was at the California bar; later on. Q Later on? A Yes, later on. Q Did you ever tow a boat up there? A Tow? Q Yes. A Oh, we towed boats. Towing, outside of wind, was considered the easiest way of getting up, provided we could walk along the beach; it is easier than rowing. Q When did you first put your motor boats on the river? A I tried one motor boat on the river in about 1902; I am not positive as to what year it was, but somewheres about 1902. Q What kind of boat was it? A It was a boat that I had built at Hite, white cedar boat, twenty- six feet long; I believe it was six foot beam, flat bottom. Q What kind of engine? A I had an engine that was one of the first automobile engines that was built, built by a man named Temple, in Denver, a double cylinder engine; been used by the Wizard Oil; they were trying to make it as an automobile engine. Q Between what point did you use this motor boat? A I tried to use it going the river, but I never got |
