Show 5263 Chaffin- D 3275 you have in mind, if you can recall them? A Starting from the California bar, Smith fork rapid is the first rapid; the water is stiller from there up to Warm Creek rapid. I think there is a rapid they call Warm Creek rapid. Q Isn't that Warm Springs rapid? A Maybe it is; it might be; I wouldn't be positive. It is up the river four or five miles. We would make this wood into rafts and bring it down load our boat with what we could. We had one boat. We would load that. Q What did you bring this wood down for? A They used it for firewood and the like of that, Mitchell did. Q How long did you stay there in 1894? A Stayed there -- as near as I remember, stayed there until some time in February in 1895. During this time I and these fellows went in partners with a man named Bennet, and Charlie Voight; we mined up above the California bar along the river. Q Is that the Mr. Bennett who has testified? A No sir, it is another. Q What bar was that known as? A I don't know what you would call it. Q To refresh your recollection, is that the New Year bar? |
