Show 5173 F. Bennett- D 3185 supplies down, and I was able to run this boat from the Olympia bar up to as far as the Good Hope bar; then from there I would load my supplies; sometime I have got my supplies there; other times I have went as far as Hite by towing my boat. Q Why didn't you run this motor boat up to Hite all the time to get your supplies? A I couldn't run it up there; it wouldn't go up the rapids without a lot of help; could line them up, but it was too expensive, too hard work. Q About what length was this boat? A I think that boat was twenty- two feet; I am not sure. Q And how wide? A It would be somewhere about four feet or perhaps a little wider. Q How much draft? A With the engine in, it would be, about, I should judge, about eight inch draft, six or eight inch draft with the engine in, outside of my propeller; my propeller was sixteen inches; that propeller would strike on the rocks; fourteen- inch propeller I had at that time. Q Do you recall the kind of engine it was? A It was what is called a Northwestern, I think put up in Minneapolis; I am not sure. What is called a Northwestern. Q Do you remember the horsepower? |
