BLACKMAR: I assume there can not be much dispute about that answer. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Had you made any obstructions during the trip down there as to whether or not the water was rising or falling? A Yes, I noticed the water was falling. Q Did the fact that the water was felling have anything to do with turning around and coming back? A Evidently. Q Tell me about the trip up stream. A Well, that was worse yet. Q Just tell me about it, then. A Well, we left Valentine and started up stream, and we hadn't gone -- let's see, I don't think we had gone over a mile until we struck a sandbar, but we bobbed over that; there was a little water on the bar, and we finally bobbed over it. Then we came on up to where there was a big side canyon came in from the east side, and there we ran into a pocket, and we had to back out and go almost to the west side of the river, am we felt our way along, and gradually it forced us back about midstream, then we found a kind of worm channel |
