Show 5051 F. Johnson- D 3063 Q Was there a wagon road all the way up? A Yes sir; mind you, this road would go out by way of Kanab, and up through that way. Q Then you returned to Lees Ferry by 1910? A Yes sir. Q Do you remember the coming of a boat called the Charles H. Spencer? A Yes sir; I saw it just after it landed the first time; I didn't see it in operation; they still had steam up, and just landed, when I first saw it. Q Where was the boat landed with reference to your ferry? A It was almost a quarter of a mile below the ferry boat, below the cable. Q How far from the point where the Nome company maintained its mining machinery and dredge? A I would say it was about between two and three hundred yards up the river from where they had their machinery. Q Did you go down and examine this boat? A Yes sir, many times. Q I mean on the first occasion when it came in. A Yes sir. Q Did you observe whether or not it carried any cargo at any time? A machinery; as I remember it now, there was a few wagons, and some other machinery on the boat. |
