Show 5224 F. Bennett- C 3236 BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q After the spring high water has subsided, the river has settled down, the channels generally speaking remain the same until the next spring season? A Sometimes during my experience there we have had other floods that would reach nearly what the spring high water would, that would have the same effect. Q I understand that, as you say, that would be an unusual occurrence. A Yes, rather an unusual occurrence. Q How long does one of these ice gorges generally last before the water backs up and breaks them? A I have known them to last for several days; as a general thing they will break in twenty- four to forty- eight hours. The river gets heavy in that time, much ice runs, and piles it up. Q What is the longest time you ever knew of one to last? A I believe I knew one to last about a week there at one time below my place. The river kept getting higher, and baked up nearly to my camp. I would say about a week. Q That is the longest time? A That is the longest time, in my recollection. Q Just one more question, I think, that is about this so- called ledge at Shock rapids.
