Show 5124 Bennett- D 3136 and myself were on that trip. We started up the river. At one point below Lake Canyon rapid, where the walls came fairly straight down, it was too swift for us to row up over. We dropped back. I climbed over a ledge, and they threw me a line, rowed up as far as they could and threw me a line, and I pulled them up over. This was not at a rapid, but merely swift water in there, and it is the same on both sides of the river. Then on the rapids we had quite a little bit of trouble coming over them, on account of the water being so swift, hight water, we had to line up over the rapids. Got up to Hall's crossing. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q This was going back up stream? A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q How many miles? A That is about twenty or twenty- two miles. Q How many days did it take you to make the trip? A Two days. Q What per cent of the distance would you say it was necessary to tow that boat? A Practically all of it, that you could tow it; much easier to tow it where you could walk and tow it then it was to row. Q After you reached Hall's crossing did you again return |
