Show 5259 Chaffin- D 3271 A Yes sir. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Were there settlers at Hanson creek there that looked after you team? A No, I turned them out in the canyon there. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q When you got back there with these supplies, then where did you go? A was called the Hole- in- the- Rock, below the mouth of the Escalante river. There we done a little mining on a bar that was called Little Anna. Q How far is that from Hanson creek down to that bar? A I think you can get your information better if you look at the map, than I can give it to you. Q In that stretch of the river on your down trip did you encounter any rapids or sandbars that caused you any difficulty? A We never had anything that gave us any great trouble. There was places where the water carries a great deal of silt, where it would settle, we would get on these mud bars. We had a light boat, and we encountered very little trouble there. Mr. Meskin knew the river pretty well. Q Do you know what month that was? A That was in the winter months. Q You can't give the exact date of it? |
