Show 5050 F. Johnson- D 3062 of the sweeps. I would generally take the one on the upper side, which would be the easy side. Q Was this ferry affixed to a cable? A It was, after we left there; I don't know just what year it was fastened to a cable. Q Prior to 1896 how was it affixed? A Up until that time it was run by theses sweeps; after my father left there, the next man that went in, James S. Emmett, had the cable put in. Q Prior to the time you left there, in 1896, and as far back as you remember, were there any other people living at Lees Ferry outside of your family? A No sir, only those that father had to help him, and once in a while somebody would come in and spend the winter. Q Do you know from what source your father got his food supplies? A As far as I know, it always came from the railroad Salina. Q Have ever made any trips yourself to Salina? A I made one. Q What means of transportation on did you use? A Team and wagon. |
