Show 5140 Bennett- D 3152 Q What was the object in bringing down this raft? A To build a house out of. Q That is, you wanted the lumber? A Yes sir. Q In the month of December did you take a trip up stream? A Yes sir. Q In what kind of boat? A Same boat we had. Q Was that the same proposition of towing and poling and rowing? A Yes sir. Q Where did you go? A Went to Hall's crossing. Q How long did it take you to make Hall's crossing? A Mr. Hay and I left Rincon on that trip after dinner, after lunch, and we camped that night at the Anderson bar, proceeded on to Hall's crossing the next morning; got there about ten o'clock, which was considered a very fast trip. Q Was that a record trip? A It was. I might add, the river was so shallow I got out and waded most of the distance and towed the boat up, Mr. Hay poling from the stern. Q Then when did you return to your camp? A Not until April of the next year, I think it was, with the boat. Q You and Mr. Hay went on out, did you? |
