A He was another freighter; he was an older man than I was; I was a young fellow at the time. Q Do you recall the depth of the water as you crossed? A As near as I remember, the water was striking the I was I didn't see it hit the lumber. Q Do you recall whether or not the horses had to swim? A No, they didn't have to swim. Q What month was it? A That was in September, maybe the latter part of August, as near as I remember; it was pretty hot weather in that country; might have been in August or September. Q Of 1888? A Somewhere along about that time; I wouldn't be so sure about that. Took a big boiler down, sixty- horsepower boiler; we all went down together, us fellows was going right back. Q What did they do with the boiler? A Afterwards put it across on the California bar; I didn't see that go over; I understood they drove across with it, but I don't know. |
