Show 5217 F. Bennett- D 3229 BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Didn't need traffic cops, anything of that kind? A No, nothing of that kind. Q One period of several years there, you were down there most of your time, weren't you? A Yes sir. Q And when you were down there you would be on the river frequently yourself, wouldn't you? A Oh, yes. Q Now, during all of that twenty- three years of experience which you had on the river, Mr. Bennett, did you ever start for a place in boat that you didn't get there? A Yes, I have tried to go up the river a number of time, great many times, and I didn't get there, and I have went as far as I could. Going up to Hite, often we would go up and either on account of reverse winds or on account of low water or something of the kind, extremely high water, we would leave our boat and walk on up. Q You have had interrupted trips at times? A Yes. Q But you always reached your destination, didn't you? A Yes; I went a foot, even, and reached it. I say, i generally reached it. I wouldn't say I always had. Sometimes I turned back, according to what point I reached with the boat. |
