Show 5210 F. Bennett- D 3222 Q For what distance did you go down? A Perhaps a mile. Q How long did you remain around Barrett Stanton? A Only that day; I came back up Comb wash that evening. Q From Barrett where did you go? A I went from there back to Hite. Q With the pack outfit? A Yes. Then at Hite I got a boat, and went down to the mouth of the San Juan river, and up the San Juan river about twelve miles. Q Before we got to that, how did you get over to Hite, what trail or road did you follow? A The trial -- at one time there was an old wagon road. It was almost obliterated. Pretty hard to follow across there. Q At any rate, you went overland? A Yes, where the natural bridge is, and so on. I stopped at the natural bridge. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Is that what is known as the old Mormon trail? A Yes sir. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Was it the same year you went up the San Juan river to its mouth? A Yes. I was up the river at that time. Immediately |
