Show 5205 F. Bennett- D 3217 BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q How much? A Somewheres around a foot deep. One corner caught and it swung over on to the bar, further towards the shore, and we unloaded the raft. I don't know but what we took some pieces out of it. Don't remember as to that. I think we put in another day there, if I remember right. I think we stayed that night just below there. Q For what distance across the river did you walk at that time? A At that time -- there is an island in there. I don't think I passed the island. I went over as far as the island. I don't think I passed it. Q Can you give me any idea of the deepest water which you found on that occasion? A I don't think I found any water in there over two feet, because I had on gum boots -- we didn't know where to go with the raft when we got it loose. We kept working it downstream. We didn't know which way to go get deeper water, only straight on down. Q Up and down the stream, how far did this ledge extend as you found it there at that time? A My recollection is about one- eighth of a mile, perhaps. Q Had you ever been on that ledge prior to that time? |
