Show 5195 F. Bennett- D 3207 A I hauled it in with teams, contracted it, hauled it in with teams. Q How did you move it from Hite down the river? A Made a raft out of it, made three rafts, put my lumber one way and nailed it through, then crossed it the other way, back and forth, and fastened those three sections on the raft fourteen feet long. That made them fourteen feet wide. That made each section of it fourteen feet square. Then I cable those together with a little space between, so when they struck anything, it would give it a chance to rock in the difference joints in the raft. I loaded on at that time a witty gasoline engine, twenty- horsepower; I think the fly- wheels weighed twenty- five hundred pounds, twelve hundred and fifty apiece. The complete engine, I estimated it weighed about five thousand pounds, the entire engine. Then I had some supplies, and had eight men there and we took and loaded on a lot of our supplies and went down the river. That was in June, high water. Q In high water? A yes sir; not extremely high water, but the water was up twelve or fifteen feet above low water. Q Tell me about that trip down the river. A We went down through Trachyte rapids.
