Show 5189 F. Bennett- D 3201 we had two flat bottom boats. I am not sure about that. Q When you came back you stopped off, you got off, you didn't return? A I stopped at the dredge and was working for the company. I went on up as far as Hite. There was four of us went us as far as Hite. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q At what point did they deliver the boats? A They were delivered at the dredge, just above these Bull Frog rapids, what is called Hall Creek rapids. The next is Bull Frog. Q Did the motor boat come up on its own power? A No sir. Q How did you get all of these boats up, did you row them or sail them or what? A No, we rowed them, towed them. We waded more or less in the river, two men get on a boat, one end of the boat, the other the other, and keep as near the shore as we could, and waded as shallow water as we could get our boats over. We tried to gain all the advantage we could. It was hard work. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Did you say Mr. Stanton located placer claims all the way down? A Yes sir. |
