Show 5161 F. Bennett- D 3173 Q Did you have some other man with you? A Yes, Mr. Summer. Q How long did you remain down there on that first trip, how many months? A Outside of going out to Richfield and coming to Salt Lake, I was there several years; made just a trip to Salt Lake. ( The reporter read the last answer.) Q Just what point on the Colorado river do you mean by " there"? A At first I was at Good Hope, working for the Good Hope Company; then I went to the California bar, and worked there two or three years. Q Supposing we take your first trip in there, about the 1st of December, 1897. After you got to the Colorado river, where did you go? A I went down to Good Hope bar; they employed me there; I came back up to Tickaboo bar, and worked there, done some assessment work for the Good Hope Company. Q How did you get from Hite down to Good Hope bar? A Went down with our horses mules. Q Is there a trail all the way down? A Yes. Q Does it follow along the river bank? A It goes along the river bank part of the way; then it is cut off by a perpendicular wall, and there was a trail built over what they called the Horn. |
