He says, " The wind is so strong, you boys not being any ways experienced, I believe I would wait until the wind went down." We went about three miles that way. He left us to look for his horse and go back another way. We waited while the wind was going down. It went clear down. So it was just a question then of dragging it along the banks the best we knew how on first one side of the river, then the other. Q In the stretch of the river between Good Hope and Olympia bar, are there any rapids? A was some pretty swift water; as near as I remember, wasn't any real heavy water, that is, fast water. Q Do you know whether or not there is trail along the river from Good Hope to Olympia? A On the opposite side there is, yes, from the Olympia bar, on this side of the river from Good Hope bar down to right opposite Olympia there is a trail there. Q What year was it that you and Adams and Bennett were there? A That was in 1897 and 1898. Q And where did you operate? A Just at the Good Hope bar, down to the Hanson. Q Did you take your pack outfit from Good Hope down Hanson creek? |
