Chaine anglaise. i La chaine anglaise s'execute par deux cavaliers et deux dames, en vis-a-vis : ils avancent pour changer de place , et, en passant l'un l'au-tre ils presenlent la main droite ; cbaque cavalier, apres avoir donne la main droite a la dame vis-a-vis, abandouue sa main et tourne devant elle, puis il donne la main gaucbe a sa danseuse, qui | rend la place de l'autre; tous se retrouvent [daces , cbaque couple l'un a cote de l'autre, et on se quitte la main en reprenant sa nouvelle place. Cette figure n'est qu'une demi-chaine anglaise , et on Pappelle chaine. entiere quand on I ache ve en retournant, chaque couple a sa place primitive; cette figure entiere exige le temps de huit mesures. Balance'. 2. Chaque cavalier tourne en faisant face a sa danseuse, et balance pendant quatre mesures. Un tour de deux mains. 3. Immediatement apres le balance , chaque couple se donne la main et revient en tournant a sa place, oil Ton se quitte la main; cette figure s'execute en quatre mesures. * La description de ces danses a ete I ecrite par M. Gourdoux. DE LA DANSE. 3$ r La chaine des dames. 4. Les deux dames vis-a-vis changent de place, et se donnent la main droite en passant; elles donnent ensuite la main gauche aux cavaliers, qui restent a leurs places. Chaque cavalier, au moment oil sa danseuse se met en mouvement pour commencer la chaine , doit aller a droite pour offrir en meme temps sa main gauche a la dame qui arrive remplacer sa danseuse; il tourne alors a gauche pour regagner sa place, et en y arrivant il quitte la main de la dame. Cette figure, qui exige le temps de quatre mesures, se repete aussi pour former la chaine anglaise entiere, qui exige huit mesures avant que chaque danseuse soit retournee a sa place. La demi-queue du chat. *5. Chacun des danseurs des deux couples donne la main gauche a sa dame, et va oblique-ment a droite pour changer de place; en arrivant a la place de l'autre couple, on se quitte la main. Cette figure exige quatre mesures. 6. Pour retourner a leurs places primitives , les deux couples executent la demi-chaine anglaise (comme le n° i du pantalon); les autres couples font de meme. LA FIGURE APPELEE L'ETE. I. Un cavalier et la dame vis-a-vis marchent en avant et en arriere, ou en avant deux pendant quatre mesures. 2.
