Ulysse feint de suivre le roi, mais reste derriere pour profiter de cette occasion d'avoir une entrcvue particulierc avec Achille. S C E N E II. - U n profond silence a lieu. Le his de Thetis reste immobile; revenu de sa stupeur, il re'fle'chit sur son sort, il me'dile sur ce qu'il vient de voir et d'entendre ; revenant a lui, l'amour des armes Pinspire , et s'ernpare de son cceur. Enfin , il semble decide a partir, et cependant il he'sile. II ap-proche de l'armure, etla contemple avec un vif plaisir : il jette alors un regard sur ses vetemens, et rough de se voir ainsi deguise. Incapable de contramdre ses sentimens, il arrache son attirail de femme avec fureur et indignation. Le heros impetueux saisit d'une main le bouclier, et de l'autre Pe'pe'e: il se prepare a partir. Pendant ce temps , Ulysse observe Achille a quelque distance, il se rejouit du succes de ses desseins j sa commission a 1 e'ussi , il possede Achille, e'en est assez; il avance done pour le ren-contrer, et Pempeche de partir; il embrasse le heros avec transport , et le felicite sur cet heureux changement. II fixe l'attention d'Achille sur la gloire qui l'attend et qui le placcra au rang des heros les plus renommes. En lui presentant ces re'sultats, Ulysse montre les statues des heros qui se sont distingues par leurs hauts faits et leur courage en m e m e temps , exprimant du mepris pour ceux qui se sont de'shonore's.
