Show l89 Nature for them is good. The basic values of Mormonism, the materialis- tic ethic of the religion, made the wedding of science and religion possible for Eyring. In science, Eyring's greatest contribution came in chemistry, with his absolute rate theory. The theory provided a new and revolutionary way of determining rates of chemical reactions and has become the stand- ard in modern chemistry textbooks and is without a serious competitor. Besides its important impact in chemistry, the theory has been applied to general rate processes. Eyring made notable contributions in the fields of liquid theory and rate processes in biological systems. Ex- cept for his work in optical rotary theory, Eyring's scientific work has dealt with the theory of rate processes and its applications. The beauty of the theory is that it applies to any processes in which a barrier needs to be overcome, so it has wide application. Eyring has become the symbol of many things for many people. We must conclude he was a devout student.of science, a true scientist, and a faithful believer in God and his religion. He is one of the greatest physical chemists of the twentieth century, and without doubt he is the greatest Mormon scientist and intellectual in its lSO-year history. is hoped that this work will provide answers for those who desire to know more about the man Henry Eyring - Mormon Scientist.
