Show l65 and obtained a Masters Degree in Chemistry in l956, spent two years in the Air Force, and then earned a Doctors Degree in Chemistry in l960.19 Following his graduation, he was awarded an NSF postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Goettingen for the l960-6l school year. After the year in Germany, he returned to Utah as an assistant professorof Chemistry and has remained on the chemistry faculty at Utah since that time. His work in chemistry built on his father's work in reaction kinetics. In addition to his work at the University, he has served in many church positions, including a call as Bishop on two occasions. Hal Eyring, after graduation from high school, went to the University of Utah where he completed his bachelors degree in physics in the same year as his brother Ted. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent two years as an Air Force Lieutenant assigned to the armed services base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His assignment at the four service command headquarters was to be the liaison between the joint services and the Sandia Corporation. Throughout his two year stay in Albuquerque, he served as district missionary and proselyted evenings and weekends. From New Mexico, he went to Harvard University, where he was awarded a masters of business administration degree in l959. This work was followed by a study of the management of research and development for which he received a doctorate from Harvard in l963. In T962, he was appointed to the business faculty at Stanford University where he remained until 197l except for one year at MIT during the lD63-64 school year. The year as a visiting professor at MIT came because he was granted a prestigious Sloan Fellowship. In l97l, Hal Eyring accepted an offer by his Church to become the tenth President of the Church's two year college, Ricks College, in Rexburg, Idaho. |
