From ( HanksviUe I-Iank-sville IIanksville ) ( they tbey ) went to the head of ( Orescent Crescent ) Canyon [ North Wash ] and down this canyon to the Colorado River , where they launched the boats . He believes the expedition started down the Colorado ( River Ri-Nrer RiNrer ) December 6 or 7 , 1889 . The purpose of the expedition was to make a railway survey of a proposed railway called the Denver , Colorado Canyon and Pacific ( Railroad Raffi-oad Raffioad ) , that had its original starting point from Denver and crossed the range [ Continental Divide ] about where the Moffat Road is , down the Grand River [ Colorado ] to the junction of the Grand and Green Rivers , down the Colorado River to near Eldorado Canyon , and down across to San Diego , California .
