Show When 14 years old , in 487 1880 , went by team and ( wagon vagon ) from Salt Lake City to Escalante , across Esealante Desert to Colorado River ; crossed in a flat boat some 30 ft . long , at ( Hole-in-the-Rock HoleintheRock ) ; . man named Hall running ferry at that place . ( R . 1679 ) Father , mother , and family ; had six wagons and teams ; ferried stock across river on boat ; continued through Bluff to mouth of ( Monte- Monte ) zuma Canyon . ( R . 1680 . ) A kind of a road through they patched up as they went along . Father opened trading post two miles up San ( Juan J-aan Jaan ) ( from -from from ) Montezuma Creek . Resided there 2Y2 yrs . River ( cut 6ut ) cultivated bottom lands away and washed it down the river . Moved to mouth of Comb Wash . ( R . 1681 . ) Merchandise in store was hauled from Alamosa , Colorado ; railroad later went to Durango , ( Colo- Colo ) rado , and several trips were made for goods ; trips to Santa Fe N . M .
