( R . 1515 . ) In 1875 he rode overland from Salt Lake ( City CitT ) almost to San Bernardino , California , just south of the San Bernardino Mountains by way of Kanab and the Virgin River , and in 1876 he made a second trip as far as Las Vegas , Nevada , ( return return- return ) ¬ ing again to St . George and Kanab , Utah , and was also around the Grand Canyon of the Colorado and various parts of Southern Utah and Northern Arizona . In 1884 and 1885 he was on the South side of the Grand Canyon and traveled up from there to the ( Pour Four ) Corners , where Utah , Colorado , Arizona , and New Mexico come together , and lived on the first mesa of the Hopis , with the Hopis for four or five weeks and spent the remainder of the winter at ( Keen's Keens ) Canyon . In ( 1903 19-03 ) he went down in the ( Zion's Zions ) country north of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River and all through that region , and in 1907 he was again on the south side of the Grand Canyon and through that region to California . ( R . 1516 , 1517 . ) The second Powell Expedition in 1871 was headed by ( John Tohn ) Wesley Powell . It ( was -was was ) financed by two appropriations from Congress of 10,000 each and was a Government expedition and rations were drawn from Fort Bridger , Wyoming .
