Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( apla'i aplai ) or two but it is a stable ( channel clianiielo ) In making the examination of the territory at and ( in ill ) the vicinity of ( Bluff Bluff- Bluff ) when he arrived ( there therd ) lie saw no evidence that the river had changed its course within any recent period . There were little sections where he saw very large trees that had ( conic come ) down with the stream sometime . They were away ( from froin ) the river but it had been years before that time . ( R . 400 . ) He was able to tell from ( ap- ap ) pearances that it had been ( many inany ) , ( many inany ) years ( be- be ) fore his arrival but ( he lie ) ( couldn't couldnt ) ( even eveli ) make a guess as to the number of years . At the place where he saw some big trees where there might , at some early date , have been a different channel , it would be nearly half a mile from the river and there was more than one place but ( whether ihether ) this ( occurred occurred- occurred ) during one excessively high flood before the white ( man mail ) got there he ( couldn't couldnt ) say , as the channel was fixed and definite when he arrived and had definite banks and lined with old trees and old willow patches . ( R . 401-402 . ) The first flood changed it some but not for any considerable distance and when the flood subsided it ( resumed resulned ) its old channel ( in ill ) most places or ( prac- prac ) tically entirely .
