Show the Glen Canyon section 434 there are a number of small rapids and shallows that they ( had bad ) trouble with . ( R . 1531-1532 . ) The canyons in the ( Colo Colo- Colo ) ¬ rado River were named by Major Powell . ( R . 1532 . ) On Page 139 of his book A Canyon Voyage , he states : ( "The The ) river , some three hundred and fifty feet wide , was low , causing many shoals , which formed the small ( rapids" rapids ) ; they often ( had bad ) to ( vade wade ) alongside to lighten the boats , otherwise these places were easy . That was near a ruin of the old Indians , up on the cliff near by , called Shinumo ruins . That was opposite the mouth of Dirty Devil River ; but there were others all the ( way 'way way ) down . ( R . 1532-1533 . ) Other ruins were seen all the ( way -way way ) down on thewalls of the river . There were storage eavesin many places ( where -where where ) they used to store corn , in sort of bins up under the cliffs . ( R . 1533 . ) These were not the same Indians that live in the vicinity at the present time , but were a tribe called by the Piutes , ( "Shinumos Shinumos Shinumos ) , " and were the ( so-called socalled ) cliff dwellers . These same Indians may exist in some of the tribes ( to-day today ) , as the Hopis are still cliff dwellers , and the fact that these particular Indians lived in the cliffs did not indicate that they were different from the other Indians , simply that they had chosen these places for defense . ( R . 1534 . ) On page 140 of The Canyon ( Yoyage Voyage ) , it is recited : ( "The The ) next day , October 4th , we ran into a stratum |
