Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show He made his first trip 742 on the Moab Garage barge in April , 1924 , ( -with with vith ) rising water and a good ( vol- vol ) ume ; they did not encounter sand bars . ( R . 2860 . ) Made a trip down to the No . 1 well . Instead of ( rid- rid ) ing back on the ( loat boat ) , he walked back . ( R . 2859 . ) On the next trip going down they were heavily loaded and got on a bar . They went back and forth and churned the wheel , but did not get off . While they were eating dinner , the sand shifted under the boat and the action of the wheel caused it to shift and boat floated off . ( R . 2860-2861 . ) As far back as he can remember does not know of Colorado River being used for the purpose of ( bringing brincring ) merchandise and supplies to the City of Moab ; and he does not know of any agricultural products in and about Moab being shipped out on the Colorado River . ( R . 2863 . ) ( Cross-examination Crossexamination ) ( R . Vol . 16 , pp . 2865- 2881 ) : He will be ( thirty-eight thirtyeight ) years old in a month or two and that he saw lumber rafted . down the [ Colorado ] River from a point about twenty miles above Moab . ( R . 2865 . ) This would be from a point several miles above the mouth of Castle Creek . ( R . 2866 . ) There was one saw mill , operated by T . . W . . ( Bran- Bran ) son and Sons on the Lasal Mountains , and when he ( -was was ) a boy there ( were vere ) several years that they rafted sawed lumber down . This was at least ( twenty-five twentyfive ) |
