Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Greenriver and at Sawyer place . With ( outboard outboard' outboard ) . motor propeller hit ( bottom bottoin ) hard at these places . ( R . 907-908 . ) At Sawyer place river has changed channel , ( cut cut- cut ) through a former island , that does not now ( exist exist- exist ) only in high water ; formerly had narrow , gravel bottom with swift water . Impossible to get ( boat boat- boat ) through except near shore in September , 1928 . . ( R . 908 . ) From Sawyer to Booth place was swift water ; - island divided river ; impossible to take ( boat boat- boat ) through either side of island ; abandoned trip ( for for- for ) fear of ( wrecking wreching ) propeller . On return trip to Greenriver found ( shallow shallow- shallow ) water ; difficulty at crossing bar above railroad . bridge . Bars start at widest point on inside of curve ( of' of ) river , in slow water and where sediment deepest ; water ( always aliNTays ) fast outside of curve ; river proceeds around the curve and starts to make a curve to the opposite side ; water shallow from widest point ( of" of of' of ) bend on one side , straight down to widest point of bend on opposite side ; river continually makes these ( beiids bends ) ( ; - ) here is where it is difficult to find channel if there is any . ( R . ( 909-910 909-91-0 ) . ) Such sand bars found frequently in Green River . ( R . 910 . ) The boat was a power boat that was used in part of Hoyt trip in 1928 . Water quiet from Greenriver down for half a mile ; motor taken off boat ; too much draft for that |
