Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

The ( time thne ) ( lie he ) drove his automobile to the Indian ( Creek Credlc ) was about eight ( months montlis ) later than this trip when the boat met him , ( and aild ) the road had been built , into Indian Creek in the meantime . ( R . 1372 . ) On the occasion when ( he lie ) walked from the Shafer well up to Moab he ( didn't didnt ) walk down because he wanted to see the formation ( in ill ) the river bottom ( which wIiicI1 ) was not visible by going over the top . He could have walked down very nicely . ( R . 1372- 1373 . ) He could not row upstream , he tried it , went , up ( three t1iree ) miles and had to give it up . ( R . 1373 . ) He did not try to row back to Moab ; simply started to ( row i-ow iow ) across the channel to a point where he could get up on the bank which was three miles above the place he had camped . He could not quite : row up to this place and had to pull to shore a half mile below and walk ( up iip ) through the brush . ( R . 1374 . ) He first knew he was going to be a witness in the case ( in ill ) November , 1929 . ( R . 1374 . ) Had done no brushing up before ( he lie ) took witness stand ; none ( whatever wbatever ) , except to prepare this album submitted in evidence .
