Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show 726 RALPH GENTRY For Complainant ( Record vol 15 ( 2810-2822 28'10-282 ) , . , pp . . } He resides at Salt Lake City , is a surveyor of Public ( Lands Lai-ids Laiids ) , and ( lias has ) been with Government since 1912 . In 1909 ( was -was was ) on the San ( Juan Juaii ) . River with ( govern govern- govern ) ( ment Inelit ) surveys . ( R . 2810-2811 . ) He was working from 4 miles above to 10 miles below ( Mexican Alexican ) Hat for the Chicago Exploration Company . Several camps were established . ( Sup- Sup ) plies for these ( cainps camps ) were ( brought broughi ) from the main camp on Lime Creek , by wagon from Bluff , and to ( the -the the ) other ( cainps camps ) by pack animals . ( R . 2811-2812 . ) The party had no boats and ( no iio ) attempt was made to operate boats . He was at Honaker Trail during January , 1909 . There were no placer mining ( oper- oper ) ations while he was there . never saw a on . ( R . 2813 . ) In 1914 ( lie he ) was engaged in ( government governmeilt ) ( work -woxk woxk ) about 25 miles down from Greenriver , on ( right- right ) hand side of Green River downstream . In crossing the river from bis camp it took three days to get across . He ( had bad ) to travel horseback to ( McPherson's McPhersons ) Ranch , where crossed in a boat . ( R . 2813 . ) McPherson Ranch is approximately 40 miles above town of ( Greenriver GTeenriver ) , and has about 50 acres under cultivation . |
