Show down the river ; got stuck 315 about a ( mile'and mileand ) a lialf below ( Frank Frauk ) Shafer well No . ( 1 I ) for a day and a half ; that is the longest time they were stuck . ( R . 1170 . ) This was in August , 1928 , and the boat was stuck where the river took four ( different differwit ) courses ( none iione ) of , them being deep enough to float the boat . The complete trip was made in probably two days and a ( half balf ) . At other times when the boat was stuck on sand bars it ordinarily took from an hour to four hours , ( "very very t4very ) many times , " to get the boat free . The longest time spent in making one trip from Shafer No . 1 well to Moab was ten hours . ( R 1171 . ) With reference to Moab the bar that he spoke about that it was necessary to churn up before he could get out is located at the Moab landing , right at mile 65 . No difficulty at island mile 64 . Between there and the dock generally very bad , Always had a little trouble through there at miles 65 , 64 . Did not make dock further ( down dowii ) the river ( be- be ) cause the ( country couiltry ) is all sandy on each side there ; ( no iio ) road . Could not build road for hauling heavy material , so had it close to the public road . It would be too ( expensive expeiisive ) to build . ( R . 1171-1172 . ) Between miles 63 and 64 , Compl . Exhibit 10 , from the ( bend belid ) to Mill Creek , the river is very wide and usually divided by visible bars between the two banks and it is difficult to tell which side to take to get ( through througgli ) , the water being ( shallow -shallow shallow ) all the way |
