Warm Creek comes into the river from the west and runs nearly east and west . ( R . 2484 . ) ( Further F-urther Further ) ( Examination Exagaination ) ( R . vol . 13 , pp . ( 2484r- 2484r 2484- ) 2486 ) : The paddles of an ( eight-foot eightfoot ) paddle wheel , do not necessarily have a deeper draft in the ( water -NNrater NNrater ) than the paddles for a ( five-foot fivefoot ) wheel . They did not on this boat . The ( five-foot fivefoot five-foo't fivefoot ) wheel ( -had had ) sixteen paddles on it ; they were so close together the paddle ( doesn't doesnt ) get time to fill with ( -water-the waterthe ) paddle hits more at an angle to the water ; with the larger diameter we put on twelve paddles ; the paddles enter the water more perpendicular to the surface of the water , and get better hold ; as the paddle passed the water had time to rush to fill the place before the next paddle hit the water . Got more efficiency with power they had . ( R . 2484 . ) On this tunnel drive , the effect of that was to take all the water out from under the rear end of the boat and have it drop clear down ; the boat was built with a tunnel inside , the idea being you could go over the bars without the propeller digging into |
