( R . 1526 . ) The expedition left Greenriver Utah about the , , middle of July , the exact date being stated ( eor-- eor ) rectly in his book [ ( Conapl Compl ) . Exh . ( 2STo No ) . 14 ] and they had no ( serious feerious ) trouble with grounding on sand bars between Greenriver , ( TTtah ITtah ) , and the mouth of the San Rafael and they saw no other boats or people outside of the Hamblins . Below the San Rafael River they come to ( Lab Lab- Lab ) ¬ yrinth Canyon and following that is Stillwater Canyon . Both of these canyons were ( compara compara- compara ) ¬ tively free from rocks . They had trouble ( ground ground- ground ) ing in Labyrinth Canyon on the sand bars , but not in Stillwater Canyon , as the river was narrow there and they went on without much trouble . ( R . 1526- 1527 . ) The method adopted of getting off of these sand bars was to get off and wade along , sometimes waded for considerable distances lift the boats , along , ease them up . None of the party had been on first expedition except Major Powell . ( R . 1527 . ) He describes Stillwater Canyon as being ( com com- com ) ( paratively aratively ) free from obstructions and Labyrinth Canyon as being full of sand bars . The water through this section was rather under the medium stage , and no boats or ( people peQple ) ( were -were were ) seen between the mouth of the San Rafael and the head of ( Cata Cata- Cata ) ¬ ract Canyon [ in the Colorado River ] .
