Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( 587-588 587-586 ) ) : He was working on the section of the river ( from falom ) ( Oliinle Chinle ) Creek on down in the latter part of June and the first part of July and was passing through in May , 1923 . The work continued on until ( Sep Sep- Sep ) tember and he left about the first week in ( Septem Septem- Septem ) ber . He was on the north side in the ( spring spriug ) and down around ( Zahn's Zahns ) Canyon in May and was in and out at different times during the summer . ( R . 587 . ) He was down on the section beginning at ( Ohinle Chinle ) Creek during August and the expedition started from Shiprock , New Mexico , and the purpose was to survey sections ( on oil ) both sides of the river and to survey this ( ten-mile tenmile teli-inile teliinile ) strip on both sides . He had horses . He ( doesn't doesnt ) know whether the country on both sides of the San Juan River had been ( winter- winter ) ranged before his arrival , although he knows that they run cattle in there at times . It ( doesn't doesnt ) begin to get green until usually late in the summer , July or August . ( R . 588 . ) |
