Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Vol . 4 , pp . 656 . ) : The ferry operated by his father was used during the high water season only , possibly three months during the year , and was operated , for only a season and a half . ( During Durh-ig Durhig ) the low water periods the Indians and other persons crossing the river would ford it with ponies . There were some miners , trappers and stock men in there when the settlers arrived but the settlers that formed the colonization ( were -were were ) called by the Mormon Church . Raplee and others ( on oia ) the San Juan River . He became acquainted with Mr . Raplee shortly after he ( Raplee ) arrived in the vicinity of Bluff . The placer mines were only worked ( dur- dur ) ing the winter seasons and then only prospected . Mr . Raplee was not a settler . He was a Colorado miner and he first saw him ( Raplee ) when he brought in a little hand machine to test out the placer . He ( doesn't doesnt doesia't doesiat ) know how long afterwards that he went to where ( Mr Nlr ) . Raplee was placer mining but he went down many times .
