Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

There are not many inhabitants in the country and in the ( San Sail ) Juan country on both sides of the San Juan River it is very rough and broken but there is good grazing on the benches when they have good season and is a good cattle and ( sheep slicep ) country . ( R . 373 . ) He ( knows kliows ) of nobody living oil the San Juan River west of Bluff and it is uninhabited except with Indians who ( come conle ) on both sides of the river .
