Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show From Bluff to ( Hite Bite ) he ( C51 651 ) followed old road ( Mormon Aformoft ) people had in there ; outfit of two or three men . ( Crossed Orossed ) in row boat ; few ( times thiles ) brought animalg over on a bar above post office . ( R . 2510 . ) Prospecting in 1906 , 1907 , and 1908 ; supplie § hauled ( from froin ) Hanksville ; some machinery froin , Greenriver . He investigated the possibilities of bringing ( min- min ) ing machinery down the Green and Colorado Rivers to Hite , ( investigation iii'vestigation iiivestigation ) being to the rapids above Hite and also from Greenriver down to ( Wim- Wim ) ( mer's mers ) ranch . He did not go through Cataract ( Can- Can ) yon . ( R . 2514 . ) Concluded that it was safer practice to ( haiil haul ) ( them thein ) overland . ( R . 2515-2516 . ) After coming to this conclusion he loaded ( ma- ma ) chinery on wagons at Greenriver [ Utah ] and hauled it to Hite by way of Hanksville and North ( Wash Wasli ) . After arriving at Hite he built a ferry and ( fer- fer ) ried the machinery across the river , and moved it ( up np ) to White Canyon ( with -Nvith Nvith ) teams , after fixing up an old ( road ---oad oad ) a distance of about ( thirtjr thirty ) miles from the Colorado River . The ferryboat constructed was about ( twenty- twenty ) eight feet long , twelve feet wide , and had a draft of about fifteen ( inches indies ) .
