Show Made trip on San Juan 624 River from Honaker trail to ( nioutli mouth ) of Copper Canyon , in ( 16-ft 16ft ) . ( row- row ) boat . ( R . 2311-2312 . ) Trip made in August ; had little water ; had to drag boat along . ( R . 2313 . ) At Indian Farms in ( 1895 3.895 ) river was 300 ft . wide ; no channel to float boat . Boated down river probably 60 miles . ( R . 2313 . ) At rapids , one time took boat out of ( Driver river ) ; worked around boulders at mouth of Grand Gulch . ( R . 2314 . ) In February 1895 , above Mendenhall cabin , ( en- en ) countered sand waves ; ice gorge stopped flow of river ; ice gorge broke , flood formed sand waves . ( R . 2314-2315 . ) Up river , boat ( was vas ) dragged because not sufficient water to row in . Indian Farms is 27 miles down from Chinle Creek ; 57 miles up from Junction with Colorado ; Piutes used to be there . ( R . 2316-2317 . ) . Went to Bluff and then to Moab by horseback ; saw two rowboats , 16 ft . long ; they left Bluff with provisions while he was there . ( R . 2318 . ) He made a trip in July or August ; river ( was -was was ) low ; lots of difficulty . ( R . 2318 . ) Lined over rapid at Soda Basin ; nosed over ( Gyp G-yp- Gyp ) sum Creek rapid . In nosing a boat you get out and get hold of nose , no lines used . ( R . 2319 . ) Lining a boat would walk along shore , boat would be out in river . ( R . 2319 . ) 1894 or 1895 , at foot of Honaker trail , saw river rise eight feet . Box ( can- can ) yon there and ( talus tatus ) slopes , canyon steep . ( R . 2320 . ) |
