This rapid was run , however , and ( Mr Air ) . Lint , ( who who- who ) had had considerable boating experience on Salmon River , handled one of the boats . Tasker possibly took one of the boats through . After passing through Narrow Canyon , the party stopped for the night at the John Hite ranch , about eight ( miles iniles ) below the Dirty Devil River . After they had stopped , four cattlemen came to the cabin , one of whom lived there and ranged cattle in that section . At this place there were ( bot- bot ) ( tom toin ) lands on the banks of the river and a road or trail leading up to the mesas . ( R . 840 . ) From John ( Hite's Hites ) ranch down to the mouth of the San Juan , LaRue and Page took one of the boats and the other boats were handled by the ( bal- bal ) ance of the party . Considerable trouble was ( en- en ) countered because of sand ( bars-there barsthere ) were lots of sand bars . It was always a guess as to where the channel was located and its location ( could'not couldnot ) be told from appearances of the water . The channel of the river on this trip had changed from where it was in 1911 , according to his memory , although he did not pay much attention to it . ( R . 841-842 . ) The outboard motor was tried again ( unsuccess unsuccess- unsuccess ) ¬ fully . The larger boats on this trip weighed from eight to nine hundred pounds light and between sixteen hundred and two thousand pounds loaded . |
