Show On the second trip ( Mr Air ) ( 225 Q95 ) . LaRue and ( Mr Air ) . Page left in one of the boats on September 11 , 1921 , for the purpose of making certain surveys down the ( river Tiver ) before the rest of the party left Greenriver ; ( the -the the ) balance of the party following the next morning . The party left Greenriver in one of the large boats and the smaller ( boat Wat ) , in which they carried a small ( out-board outboard ) motor for the purpose of attaching ( when when- when ) ¬ ever they chose to . This motor was of a type such that the ( propeller propellor ) reached about eighteen inches beneath the bottom of the boat and was hinged so ( that -that that ) if the ( propeller propellor ) struck bottom it would rise up behind the boat and release itself . The motor was attached to the boat about half a mile below ( the -the the ) Green ( Kiver River ) and the larger boat was fastened ( alongside -alongside alongside ) so that the one ( out-board outboard ) motor acted as motive power for both boats . ( R . 820-822 . ) Some trouble ( was -Niras Niras ) experienced by the boat ( run run- run ) ¬ ( ning 'niiig niiig ) into rocks and scraping bottom , which caused some delay . Trouble of this type occurred many times on the trip but was not taken much notice of because such accidents and stops were considered incidental to the trip . No damage was done to the boats because of striking or scraping rocks but oak strips were put on the bottom of the boats in order to prevent extra rubbing and causing of leaks . Most of the trouble from striking bottom and rocks occurred in the first twenty miles of the trip and was due to shallow water not to sand bars . , 313307-31 voL 1-15 |
