Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( 1 -1 ) was drilled to a depth of about four thousand , nine hundred ( sev- sev ) enty feet ; the ( Proimnel Proinniel ) well No . ( 1 I ) was drilled to a depth of about three ( thousand thousaiid ) ( live five ) hundred feet ; the John L . ( Shafer Sbafer ) well was drilled to a ( depth deptli ) of about three ( thousand illousand ) five ( hundred liundred ) feet ; the John H . Shafer well was drilled to a depth of about five ( thousand tbousand ) , one hundred feet ; the A . J . Hazlewood well was drilled to a depth of ( about labout ) five hundred feet . ( ( E R ) . 1012-1014 . ) Oil well drilled ( at tit ) French Seep is located ( on oil ) the map as being about ( sixty-five sixtyfive ) ( miles nifles ) south of ( the file ) mouth of the Green River ( arid and ) about ten miles west of the junction of the Green River with the Colorado . A well drilled by the Phillips Company between Barrier Creek and ( Greenriver Grecuriver ) is located on the map as being about ( forty-five fortyfive ) miles south of the town of Greenriver and about three miles west of the Green River . A well drilled by the Texas Company was located on the map as being about fifty miles south from the town of Greenriver and ( about aboftt ) ten or twelve miles west from the Green River . Tools and other drilling equipment were taken to these wells by automobile truck from , Greenriver , Utah . So far as he knows , ( none ilone ) of the material was taken down by way of the river . |
