Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

The main highway from ( Moab Afoab ) is a good Toad but the road down Indian Creek is rough . . At the time he ( went -went went ) down , ( material m-aterial material ) was being . hauled in to the ( drilling drillhig ) ( locations locatious ) on Indian Creek . z The country to the left of the road ( between'Moab betweenMoab ) . and Greenriver , Utah , is quite rough ( and alid ) contains sand and rock . So far as he ( knows kilo-Nvs kiloNvs ) , no ( one olie ) lives there . There is one place along the road ( betweeji betweej ) ( Greenriver -Greeilriver Greeilriver ) and ( Moab Aloab ) , about halfway , where it looks as if someone had tried to farm ( lands a-lids alids ) . They had ( constructed coiistructed ) a little reservoir to catch ( run-off runoff ) ( water Avater ) for irrigating ( purposes purpo-ses purposes ) . He ( imagiiiQ iniagillqd ) there were five or six sections of pretty good lajid in that vicinity . He very often used one of the ( smaller smaHer ) boats to make trips from ( Moab sloab ) to the oil wells and back .
