Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show Number 24 ( he lie ) believes 192 is called the third Goose Neck below Mexican Hat . Number 25 is a picture north of the oil field just right north of ( Mexican Mexicali ) Hat . It is about eight miles north and is typical of the country . The road shown in the picture stops there ; he built it . It is a road from ( Mexican Mexicali ) Hat and was built to put in oil machinery . Number 26 is what is called the canyon above Soldier Basin right east of ( Mexican Mexicali ) Hat about ( six si-x six ) ( miles -miles miles ) . Number 27 is part of Soldier Basin near the ( pre- pre ) vious photograph [ ( Number N-tunber Ntunber ) 26 ] . ( R . 699 . ) Number 28 is in Lime Creek north of the river . ( R . 700 . ) He has observed the high water ( run-off runoff ) in the spring of the year and the floods which come in about September . In the Spring the water rises gradually in the stream and subsides gradually but during floods in the fall of the year the stream rises rapidly , takes everything before it , and ( imme- imme ) diately subsides . The flood ( waters -waters waters ) do not occur with any regularity in the fall of the year . He has never known of any boats being used for ( naviga naviga- naviga ) tion up and down the river . They were just used for crossing purposes . ( ( B R ) . 700-701 . ) ( Prom From ) 1892 to 1901 he was a freighter and carried supplies down the San Juan River to placer miners and others in 1893 and 1894 . During the time he was on the river he did not ( know kno-w know ) of any ( prospec prospec- prospec ) tors bringing supplies down by boat . |
