Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show come into the river at the 174 same ( plaee place ) on the oppo ¬ site sides . His father and brothers and himself ran the store and for probably five or six or seven years ( alto- alto ) gether . His father ran it for two or three and he was washed out and he moved on top of the hill . He lived ( in iii ) Monticello for about two years but ( out- out ) side of that , all of his time in San Juan ( Count3r County ) was spent in Bluff and the trading post there at ( Monte- Monte "Alonte- Alonte ) zuma . He moved to Salt Lake about three ( years yeaxs ) ago . The placer mining began before he went to ( Mon- Mon Afon- Afon ) tezuma . ( R . 632-635 . ) There is a very good road down the north side of the San Juan River from Bluff to Goodrich . This road was constructed originally by the pioneers when they first came into the San Juan country . The first of it was built when the pioneers went to Bluff they built most of it . ( R . 635-636 . ) There is no road along the river west of Goodrich to the Colorado River . The old emigrant road ( trav trav- trav ) ¬ eling westerly around the heads of the washes to the Colorado River opposite the ( Hole-in-the-Rock HoleintheRock ) , ( Kunien K-umen Kumen ) Jones and party constructed . ( R . 636- 637 . ) The first placer mining he had a personal ( knowl knowl- knowl ) ¬ edge of was about ( one-half onehalf ) way between Bluff and Montezuma .
