Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show 278 0 ' There ( had bad ) been a pipe line survey made for the purpose of ( shipping sbipping ) out oil in ( commercial conmiercial ) quanti ¬ ties . This pipe line was surveyed from what is ( known "known known ) as the Big Bend northward toward Thompson . In the wells west of the Green River , showings of oil were found but no oil in commercial quanti . - ties , and all drilling operations in the vicinity have been ( discontinued discontilmed ) . There are still great hopes that oil in commercial ( quantities quautities ) ( will NNill ) be encountered in the ( geological geolocrical ) structures of this field . The ( survey suryey ) made by ( him bim ) took in the territory west of the last known survey corner in the Moab ( Val- Val ) ley , as the location of the ( junction julietion ) of the ( Green Ireen ) and Colorado rivers was wanted ( with -with with ) respect to surveyed lands . ( Geological Geologieal ) conditions favorable , in his opinion , for oil production were encountered during the survey . He ( has bas ) made no surveys on the San Juan River . The survey extended south along the Colorado River only two and ( one-half onehalf ) miles toward Cataract Canyon or to the head of Cataract Canyon . Other than heretofore testified he has not made , any surveys on either side of the Green River for the purpose of locating oil structures .
