Description |
Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

( R . 2418 . ) Mr . Beldon helped build boats . Colorado River ; saw Mr . Wimmer at ( point pohit ) ( half- half ) way between mouth of San Juan and Aztec . Creek ; came to camp ( in kn ) a row boat . ( R . 2419 . ) Saw Mr . Wimmer in a rowboat with outboard motor ( half- half ) way between Last Chance Creek and Crossing of the Fathers . ( R . 2420 . ) Came upstream from Lees Ferry with Mr . Marrs , a mechanic of the California Edison Co . ( R . 2420- 2421 . ) Boat of Emory Kolk at mouth of San Juan and ( Mr Air ) . ( Wimmer's Wimmers ) boat only boats he saw there . ( Wimmer's Wimmers ) boat 16 ft . rowboat . Upstream from Lees Ferry walked part way ; pushed motor boat 30 or 40 ft . over a sand bar ; 50 ft . each side of two rapids ; power boat went up river 68 miles . ( R . 2425 . ) After he became established at Red Canyon took boat up to Hite for supplies three or four times a year . ( R . 2430-2431 . ) Supplies used by ( Mr Air ) . Seaboldt while testing bars in 1915 , came by wagon from ( Hanksville HanksviHe ) to Hite ; supplies from Hite came by pack horse on west side of river .
