This expedition was equipped with life preservers . They were cork , warranted to float ninety pounds dead weight . Cataract Canyon is ( forty-one fortyone ) miles long ; they counted over fifty rapids . Did not run all the rapids . They lined the one where they lost the boat and portaged one . Ran the rest ; portaged the provisions several places and ran the rapids ( with -with with ) the empty boats . Between Greenriver Utah and the end of ( Cata Cata- Cata ) ¬ , , ract Canyon did not meet any other boats . Saw no people except the Wheeler boys .
