Testimony given before special master Charles Warren in a suit brought by the United States against the state of Utah over ownership of the bed of the Colorado River. Much of the testimony was given by river runners, scientists and engineers, petroleum geologists, and placer miners. The testimony constitutes an extensive oral history of the men and women who utilized the Colorado River Basin in Utah prior to 1929. |

Show then have a gradual ( slope- slope slopc- slopc ) 267 down to the ( railroad railroa ) at a point near Crescent , a station on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad , about six miles west of ( Thompson Tlionipsoii ) . ( R . 985 . ) The ( purpose ptirpose ) in surveying that road was aloea ¬ tion survey , to ( see-it seeit ) was a pipe line survey , with sort of a road scouting trip at the ( same sanie ) time . ( Thoj Thoj- Thoj ) . 1 e was no real road ( survey survew ) ( that tbat ) ( he lie ) ever ( heard beard ) of . ( R . 985 . ) The Shafer No . ( 1 I ) well is on the west side of ( the die ) river or the ( right-hand righthand right-lialid rightlialid ) side going down . The Shafer No . 2 well is on the same side of the river about ten ( miles iniles ) from No . 1 and there is ( no iio ) road connecting ( the t'llic tllic ) two ( wells we'J"Is weJIs ) . Aside ( from froin ) these two ( wells w'ells wells ) there is the ( Snowdeii- Snowdeii Snowden- Snowden ) McSweeny ( well Nyell ) , opposite Shafer No . ( 1 I ) well and on the east side of the river , the Lockhart well , which was started at the mouth of Lockhart Canyon right on the river . The Shafer No . ( 1 I ) well and ( Snowden- Snowden ) ( McSweeny MeSweeny ) well were ( twenty-one twentyone ) miles from Afoab ; the ( Shafer Sbafer ) No . 2 well is about ( thirty thJrty ) miles ( from ftoni ) ( Moab Afoab ) and the Lockhart well about forty miles by the ( river jdver ) . There ( was wlis ) also another well at about fifteen ( hundred liundred ) feet ( north nortli ) of the Shafer No . ( 1 I ) ( well NTCII ) on the river ( bottom bottoni ) in the ( canyon cauyoii ) , known as theNo . ( 1-A 1A I-A IA ) .
